Deaf Awareness Week Tip 3
Getting someone’s attention
-If someone is deaf or hard of hearing, shouting at them across a noisy room or whistling to get their attention isn’t going to work. Although you might feel you are being ignored, please remember to be kind and patient.
If you are unsure that someone may be deaf or hard-of-hearing, try moving into their line of sight to get their attention. A friendly wave is another polite way to them know that you are interested in speaking with them. It’s also important to actively seek eye contact.
